You may remember not so long ago my girlfriend and I went to the opera, and though both of us were dressed to impress, only she received compliments throughout the night, which kind of pissed me off.
You may also recall that I stated that if the situation was reversed, I’d feel quite smug.
Well, smug me up, babies!
We recently turned her birthday into a birthweekend, and spent the first night in the city enjoying a concert by none other than Beth Hart.
Now, as you probably know by now we simply hate dressing up, but this called for an outfit befitting of such an occasion.
Nothing says Happy Birthday, and OMG we’re seeing Beth Hart in concert, like leopard print.
We were sitting in the bar at the beginning of the night, when a clearly fashion conscious woman leaned over and said “Where are you two off to? You look fantastic!” Did I mention she was addressing me, and me alone? I did? Okay then. Just so you know. Me.
Later in the evening, we were in the elevator and once again, I was addressed with “Great jacket!” That’s right. They were talking about the jacket that was on me. Mine.
If it wasn’t my girlfriend’s birthday, I would have waltzed through that whole night in a cloud of self centred smugness.
Lucky for her, I was magnanimous enough to remember the occasion, and ignore how fabulous I looked for a while so I could focus instead on her.
